Telegraph service is the long-distance transmission of written messages without physical transport of letters. While telegraph service was originally over wire, Radio telegraph service or wireless telegraphy transmits messages using radio. Telegraph service also includes recent forms of data transmission such as fax, email, and computer networks in general, but commonly, a telegraph service is considered a service that sends telegrams. Telegraph service messages are sent by telegraph operators using Morse code are known as telegrams or cablegrams, often shortened to a cable or a wire message.
